Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of End-of-Life Scenarios of Carbon-Reinforced Concrete: A Case Study

This study assesses the environmental performance in end-of-life (EoL) of double walls made carbon-reinforced concrete (CRC) and steel-reinforced (SRC). The most feasible CRC EoL scenarios are evaluated using life cycle assessment their performances then compared to those SRC. results showed that mechanical recycling is best scenario, with a global warming potential (GWP) 7.0 kg CO2 eq., while use renewable energy can save over 50% GWP. For SRC, scenario was obtained mobile plant (GWP 8.8 eq.). In general, further reinforcements hardly comparable. Steel be recycled nearly without losses or downcycling, closed carbon fibers not yet possible. Therefore, fiber properties processes need improved for loop an optimized performance.
